What is auricular acupressure?

Seeds - or ear beads - are tiny beads placed on your ear to serve as tiny acupressure devices. They are a type of auriculotherapy, a traditional Chinese medicine technique that focuses on areas of your ear. They are believed to promote comfort and relaxation. People can use them to help relieve pain, insomnia, addictions, and mental issues ranging from anxiety to stress.

These seeds traditionally come from a plant called vaccaria but can also be made from ceramic or metal. They are placed outside your ear on certain acupuncture points depending on your needs. They are usually held in place with a waterproof adhesive and stay on your ears for about 3 to 5 days.

Ear seeds are safe for almost everyone, although it is always good to tell your doctor about any alternative treatments you try. Some people use ear seeds as a complement to acupuncture sessions. They can help prolong the effects of acupuncture between sessions.
